RACHEL HESTER
HELLO I'M RACHEL
ABOUT
This is a piece I wrote highlighting an employee's volunteer service for Unum's corporate website. I write two of these every month. I conduct the interviews and gather all the information myself.
This is the rest of the "Lisa Montelongo-Connor helps the defenseless" article.
This is an invite I designed for a DoubleTree event. This invite was emailed out and used as a graphic on social media. I used Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create it.
This is one of the blog posts I wrote on behalf of a public relations firm I was working for. I developed the topic and content myself.
This rest of the blog post.
This is a webpage I created for Baylor Wyldlife. I made it to inform parents and students of our upcoming events.
This was a feature article on one of Unum's programs I wrote for their corporate website. I interviewed over five people for this one story. I interviewed one employee on camera to make a video to accompany the article.
This is the rest of the "Unum Scholars Program continues to grow" article.
This is a press release I wrote that was published in the Business section of the Times Free Press on Sunday, April 6, 2014. I interviewed Godin and put together all the information needed. I then sent it out to all the local papers in Chattanooga.
PORTFOLIO
Here are a few examples of my most recent work.
ABOUT ME
I graduated from the University of Tennessee in August 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Communication and a minor in Promotions. I have lived in Chattanooga for about five years. Orginally, I'm from Knoxville, where my parents and 2 sisters still live. I can get along with just about anyone, but am very independent and self-motivated. When I'm not at work, you can usually find me doing something active like hiking, boxing or paddle boarding. My favorite hiking partner, by far, is my dog, Maybel. I travel and go to as many concerts as time and money allow. A few more random facts about myself: I love to read, could eat Greek food everyday, and never know what to say in "About Me" sections.
I interned at Unum in the Corporate Communications department and at Derryberry Public Relations. At Unum, I mainly worked with internal communications, conducting interviews and writing articles for their intranet, which is seen by over 10,000 employees in the U.S. and U.K. Along with maintaining parts of their corporate website, I digitally archived publications and created daily web analytic reports. I also had a hand in external communications- writing press releases, developing white papers and measuring the company's and its competitors media occurences. I did a little bit of everything at Derryberry; including a good deal of graphic design work and writing blogs, press releases, media alerts and social media campaigns. I have past experience with event planning and photography. I interned for 3 months with Soriees Event & Party Planning and worked for 2 years at Kodak taking, editing and selling photos. While in college, I also volunteered for a nonprofit, Young Life, as the team leader of the Baylor Middle School Wyldlife team. As team leader, I was in charge of planning events, running their social media, conducting meetings, reaching out to parents and donors, making sure all of my team members contribute and ensuring the safety of all the kids. Young Life has also given me experience in design. I have designed multiple t-shirts for the orginzation. Along with volunteering in college, I also worked my way to the top 10% of my class and into collegiate societies, such as Kappa Tau Alpha National Honor Society in Journalism & Mass Communication and The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
WHAT I DO
I am a marketing/ communication coordinator. Most recently, I was a media assistant at The Johnson Group, an advertising and marketing firm. I directly dealt with media vendors on behalf of our clients to purchase broadcast, print, digital, social and outdoor, optimize placements, handle billing and analyze analytics. I also spent a month traveling to different exhibitions as an event coordinator for a client. As the event coordinator, I over saw the set up, daily function and tear down, as well as managed exhibit employees. I have gained experience in media, communications and public relations through my current position and multiple internships.
